7th & 8th Grade Band Materials Lists
(for your at-home work station)


7th Grade

  • ​3 Packs loose-leaf paper (college ruled)
  • Blue, Black, Red, and other colorful pens
  • Pencils 
  • Hand-held pencil sharpener
  • Colored Pencils
  • Over the Ear Headphones

If you will be participating with your instrument in Digital Learning:
  • Instrument, in clean and working condition, clearly labeled with your name.  Please make every effort to rent or buy your instrument from a reputable music store with instrument repair facilities.  Deals on instrument purchases that seem “too good to be true” often result in frequently-broken and/or non-playable instruments.
  • Mouthpiece (all mouthpieces listed are preferred.  Equivalent mouthpieces will also be accepted.  Check with the band director, NOT the music store employee, if you have a question about an “equivalent” mouthpiece): 
  • Clarinets – Vandoren B45 or RV lyre 
  • Bass Clarinets – Yamaha 4C
  • Alto Saxes – Selmer S80 C* or Eugene Rousseau New Classic Alto 
  • Tenor Saxes – Yamaha 4C or Vandoren Optimum TL-3 
  • Bari Saxes – Yamaha 4C or Selmer S90 190
  • Trumpets – Bach 3C
  • Horns – Farkas MDC
  • Trombones – Bach 5G (specify if large bore trombone) 
  • Euphoniums – Bach 6 ½ AL 
  • Tubas – Bach 24AW 
 
*NEW BOOK ALERT!!!! Essential Elements Book 1 for your instrument, clearly labeled with your name.  This can be placed in one of the inside pockets of your band binder.  ***Be sure to still have your 6th grade RED BOOK to start the year***

  • 3 ring binder black, ½ inch thick with inside and outside pockets, (usually available at the school store for $2 or at a local store for $3/4).  We ask that all students have the same color binder in order to create a uniform look.  
  • At least 30 clear page protectors for a 3-ring binder.  Students may need more or fewer page protectors at different points throughout the year.  
  • Tuner & Metronome, or App with both functions.  Clearly label tuners/metronomes with your name.  
  • Wire Music Stand

WOODWINDS: At least 3 new and playable reeds at all times (suggested Vandoren, required size 3), a reed case that holds at least 2 reeds (not the plastic that the reed comes in when purchased), cleaning supplies specific to your instrument, and name clearly labeled on your case.

BRASS: Cleaning supplies specific to your instrument: valve oil, slide grease, slide cream and spray bottle (trombones only), snake, mouthpiece brush, and name clearly labeled on your case.  

PERCUSSION: 3 and ½ octave bell set and practice pad, 1 pair of hard rubber bell mallets (not the ones included in the percussion kit), 1 pair “medium” yarn wound marimba mallets, 1 pair of snare sticks (size 2B or 5B), 1 pair of medium timpani mallets, and a stick bag. All sticks, mallets, stick bags, practice pads, etc materials should be clearly labeled with your name.  

8th Grade

  •  Headphones/Headset so students can work in a noisy environment
  • An electronic device: Laptop/Desktop/Tablet/Smart Device
  • Loose-leaf paper (college ruled)
